If you or your loved ones suffer from excessive gas or stench-ridden flatulence that leaves you gasping for breath, fear no more. There is a solution.
UK-based company Shreddies has been around since 2008, but is just now breaking wind in the U.S. (pun intended). The company prides itself on making “flatulence filtering underwear,” and other products like pajamas and jeans that allegedly neutralize the smell of farts. Alas, the perfect garment for Mexican night.
How They Work
According to Shreddies (with traditional British spelling), their garments “feature an activated carbon back panel that absorbs all flatulence odours. Due to its highly porous nature, the odour vapours become trapped and neutralised by the cloth, which is then reactivated by simply washing the garment.”
Imagine that…you fart for a day, wash the underwear and the fart-masking technology is reactivated and ready to go. The garments are odor-resistant for two to three years—equal to the life of the garment.
What’s better? The company claims the garments can filter odors up to 200 times the strength of the average fart. I’d hate to endure that smell…
Who Are They For?
While Shreddies are for everyone, the company says they may be especially useful for people with health conditions that cause flatulence issues such as “IBS (irritable bowel syndrome), Gastritis, Crohn’s disease, Dyspepsia and Colitis as well as food intolerances and many other bowel and digestive disorders.”
According to the website, the average person passes gas 14 times per day. That’s 14 opportunities for anxiety and/or embarrassment. “Shreddies not only improves the physical symptoms but also helps reduce the anxiety associated with this condition,” the website states.
It should be no surprise that these underwear don’t fall into the affordable Fruit of the Loom cost category.
Women’s underwear cost approximately $28 for briefs or $31 for the high-waisted style (website prices are listed in pounds). Men’s underwear are $35 for hipsters or roughly $52 for the support boxer style. Both men’s and women’s underwear also come in three and five-packs for a discounted price.
New in stock are men’s and women’s pajama pants, which cost $108, and jeans that will set you back $145. Woof.
Tips For Success
To get the most out of your Shreddies, consider your posture and position when letting one rip. Ensure there are no gaps in the waistband or leg openings before you release. “To avoid flatulence escaping around the filter we recommend that you stand with your legs together and try to let your wind out slowly,” the website reads. The same legs together method is recommended when sitting as well.
All of this has me thinking, need I search harder for a Father’s Day gift? Shreddies are a gift to everyone. (You’re welcome, mom.)
