Being the unofficial start of summer is within grasp, I’ve found it’s time to update my wardrobe. It’s time to use the 20/20 rule—if you can replace something for less than $20 in less than 20 minutes, you can get rid of it. It’s time to say goodbye to that top from seventh grade that is pilling and faded. (Yes, I’m admitting it, I can still fit into some of those clothes. #StillAShrimp)
I’m not sure about you, but… me, in a store… is a nightmare. I circle round and round, spending hours of my precious time, looking at every single solitary piece on the rack. Usually, during this process, I run into one of three problems:
- I have no vision in mind, so I end up purchasing nothing.
- I have no vision in mind, so I end up making an impulsive, regrettable purchase.
- Upon returning home, I find that I lack the bottoms to compliment the top I just bought.
Once and for all, I am out to solve these issues. I know that to have a clear vision I must know the trends for this season. But where do I start?
Proper & Prim had just the answer. The boutique that had quickly become a favorite of mine in downtown Fargo was willing to offer me some guidance. After going to market in L.A. in mid-April, Teresa (Fargo store manager) and Ashley (Minneapolis store manager) O’Day were brimming with ideas and trends. They even agreed to share their super secret fashion tips for summer.
Today, we will check out color trends, but for a fully informed spring/summer wardrobe, watch for my upcoming posts. Proper & Prim had so much advice that we had to give you style advice in a series of five posts, each dedicated to a specific category: color, shape, style, pattern, and accessories. But for now, let’s focus on color.
Gimme A Little Sunshine
While yellow is known for being extremely hard to wear, stylists suggest you try again—this time with the right yellow. If you match the correct undertone with your skin tone, you’ll be singing, “I’ve got a pocket, got a pocketful of sunshine.”
All White Everything
It’s simple. It’s sleek. It’s sexy. #allwhite (And for the record, it’s totally acceptable after Labor Day).
Yin & Yang
Whether it’s black and white print, stripes, or solid pieces… looking flawless has never been so easy.
Too Hot? Hot Damn!
Looking to make a statement? Proper & Prim says you’ll be right on trend. We are “ooohing” over hot pink this season. It may seem daring, but I can guarantee you’ll get more than a few compliments for your courage.
