‘Proper’ Summer Trends (Pt. 2): All About That Shape

As women, our bodies vary in shape and size. Fortunately, our clothes have the ability to create an illusion, making our beautiful bodies even more flattering. The shape that clothes give us is an important piece to fashion that many forget. Just because maxi dresses were trending a couple years ago, doesn’t mean they complimented my 5-foot, 2-inch body. #SoShort

It’s important to keep your body’s shape and skin tone in mind when considering which trends to try, whether it’s color, style, pattern or even the accessories you choose. A trend is a trend, but that doesn’t mean you should wear black lipstick just because it’s ”in.”

Here are a couple trends you can use to your advantage this summer when you want to flaunt all that your mama gave you:

Full & Flattering

Nothing says easy like throwing on a full skirt with a T-shirt. Whether it’s stiff fabric that holds its shape or lightweight and made of tulle, this trend will have you looking like Audrey Hepburn in no time.

Solid Foundation

Skinnies have had their 15 seconds of fame. The runway is making room for some change, and designers say wide legs pants are back in. Ladies, you know what that means… no more jumping into jeans!

More than Just a Long Shirt

The best part about shirt dresses is they come in different lengths and fabrics, making them a great fit for all body types. An easy way to dress up this summer trend for work (and create a clear waistline) is to add a tie belt and slip on some wedges. Voila!

‘Mono Style

Kimonos have survived yet another season in modern culture. While the famous Japanese clothing piece is worn less commonly today in Japan, many other countries have adopted the kimono for its comfort and style. Throw on a kimono-style piece with shorts and gladiator sandals for an award winning look.
