On winter days when the temperature falls into the single digits, I like to dream of spring. I dream of seeing the light of day before and after work. I dream of exposing my skin without the fear of frostbite. And I dream of leaving my awkward bulky layers at home. Today is one of those days.
As I dream about spring (and, in general, warmer temps), I’m inspired by the runway. What trends will make a statement come April? What colors can I look forward to wearing after I’ve ditched my winter blues? To prepare myself for warmer weather (which will come…eventually, I promise), I’ve compiled five of my favorite trends of spring 2016.
Bare Shoulders
This trend is one that I don’t suggest for winter. Wait to bare your shoulders until the sunshine can kiss them. But when you do decide to stock up for this trend, look for off-the-shoulder tops, blouses with shoulder cutouts, and garments with multiple straps.

Bold Stripes
When you think spring, think not dainty pin stripes, but big, bold stripes. The runway’s spring 2016 collections featured bold stripes in bold colors. Look to add festive stripes to your wardrobe, incorporating this trend into tops, blouses, dresses, and more.

So Much Sparkle
If the sun is shining, you should be too. What better way to greet spring than to sparkle like the sun. Whether you choose a bold, sequin-covered dress or a more subtle approach with sequin detailing, this trend is sure to brighten your day (literally).

All Wrapped Up
This year’s spring collections are encouraging us to get wrapped up in fashion. From wrap dresses and skirts, to belted tops and tie shirts, there’s no way you can go wrong with this trend. To create the most flattering silhouette, look for pieces that cinch at the narrowest part of your waist.

Feminine & Frilly
The romantic look is all the rage for spring and summer. Buying pieces with ruffles and frills will get you halfway there… but to master the look, you’ll want to dive deep into pastels—namely light pink and lavender.

No matter how cold it is in Fargo mid-January, we are allowed to dream. So, instead of focusing all your effort in trying to remember why you endure the cold every year, do a little shopping and prepare yourself for the summer months that make living in the Midwest truly sensational.
